Murray Hill, New Jersey, U.S., July 8, 2008 – Peter Garra, Linde North America’s director of real estate, has been named chairman of the Industrial Asset Management Council, the premier real estate organization for the industrial corporate real estate profession.
Linde North America is a member of The Linde Group, a leading global gases and engineering company. IAMC is an association of industrial real estate asset managers and corporate real estate executives, their suppliers, service providers and economic developers.
Garra was unanimously elected to the one-year position, where he presides over IAMC’s Board and Executive Committee. His responsibilities include setting and guiding policy decisions, managing IAMC’s executive director and staff and overseeing the group’s finances and annual budget. Garra also will preside over IAMC’s semi-annual professional forums and its annual business meeting.
Garra is a founding member of IAMC, which was created six years ago. In addition to being a member of the Board of Directors, he has served in several leadership positions, including Vice Chairman, Strategic Planning Chairman, Executive Committee, and Membership Committee Chairman. Prior to his involvement in IAMC, Garra was an active member of corporate real estate organizations such as CORENET and IDRC.
“Through IAMC I am able to learn from my peers and recognized experts in the corporate real estate industry. I can compare and adopt new procedures and practices and remain current on the various economic development incentives that can be made available for Linde’s qualified business operations. This ensures that Linde remains competitive and up to date with industry changes,” Garra said.
Garra has worked in the industrial gases industry since 1989, when he joined BOC Gases, later acquired by Linde. Garra’s previous positions included manager of real estate for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and vice president of real estate for Shearson Lehman Brothers.
Garra is a graduate of Wagner College in Staten Island and has an MBA in finance and management from St. John’s University. He holds various professional real estate designations and has specialized training in leadership, construction, project management and workspace design.
